[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] The best (ultra-) wide-angle lens

[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] The best (ultra-) wide-angle lens

From ruessler

With the 10-20mm Sigma has an excellent lens in the program. It shows the other competitors in many respects, what is a rake. Of course, it also has little weaknesses, but that one sees across, if you realize what this lens has strengths.

The image quality is excellent, the sharpness is very persuasive. Only Aperture can open it blurs the edges to come, but this is for most lenses so. Everything is grayed out in the green area.

The vignetting makes Although noticeable, but is easily correctable with postprocessing. Such a lens requires postprocessing on the computer anyway, also in order to correct the distortion that inevitably occurs.

The autofocus is fast and quiet, thanks to HSM drive.

The workmanship is very good. Recently, Sigma finally establishes a proper lens cover for where you removed the front hineingreift – finally, the old lid, the one on the side abpulen had, was an affront. Also contains a lens hood and a bag of useful.

I can fully recommend this lens, because it gives you possibilities you with longer focal lengths does not have! With the beginning of 18mm focal length (29mm equivalent) you can eventually become unable to go back ;-) .

A few words about the comparison with Canon’s own 10-22mm. This is more expensive, has no lens hood at (and that you must buy is enormous) and is darker from. Especially the latter fact is similar to light the alleged weakness of the Sigma lens again.
I’ve tested both lenses and find the Sigma even much sharper!
So the choice should really be clear: Sigma 10-20mm. Of course nothing for the 5D – because there Abdunklungen that you no longer can be described as vignetting … but that’s a lens for digital times now clear.

[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] Finally at the finish!

From A. Fabel

Since I use for my EOS 450D a Wide examined, I decided to first for the Tokina ATX 4,0 / 12-24 Pro DX which both tests at Color Photo Traumflieger.de as well as top marks received. Unfortunately, I apparently got the same 2-times subsequently a “Monday” model because the sharpness performance was not what the tests are promising. The exchange and ultimately the reimbursement for this lens were very customer friendly way, (photo compliments to Koester / Marketplace).

At the 3rd times so I tried it with the Sigma 10-20mm EX DC HSM 4-5,6. Although according to various forums for its rather Sigma series is known dispersion was equal to the first one hit the lens. All in all, as I had imagined it to me. Good sharpness and image quality, pleasant touch, quiet autofocus (HSM-drive) with possibility of direct intervention and, last but not least, good facilities including stray light aperture and lens pouch.
From me there was a clear buy recommendation!

BTW … if the lens is within 8 weeks after purchase from Sigma register you get a warranty extension to 3 years.

Incidentally, it should be mentioned that even with another in my possession Sigma lens (18-125mm 3,8-5,6 DC OS HMS) is equal to the first copy over …

[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] A great super wide

From Reinhold Stansich

After long and deep research, I decided this lens to cover the super wide range on my EOS 350D to acquire. The test results achieved in relation to the much lower price compared with the comparable EF-S 10-22 took me to this decision virtually forced.

In detail: The Canon lens offers a slightly wider focal length range (10-22) and is approx. 2 / 3 light visors stronger. If you look at the distortions, the Canon is in the middle of much better, but it cuts at 10mm significantly worse. Regarding the vignetting give the two lenses and achieve nothing, however, good to very good results. The test results related to the sharpness of both lenses excellently – even if the Sigma is a bit better. If you look at the chromatic aberrations of the two lenses, the Sigma has just under the nose in front, but the Canon is quite good.

The Sigma lens is first processed – there is still a Canon slices cut and the speed of autofocus, there is no significant difference. Both have manual intervention options in the very fast autofocus lenses and both can only crop cameras are used (currently EOS 20D, 30D, 300D and 350D).

The other alternatives on the market (the Sigma 12-24, the Tamron 11-18 and Tokina 12-24) cut worse – especially in the area of chromatic aberrations where all visible color in the photos left behind, although the Tokina otherwise herovrragende results delivered. Remains to decide which lens to take the issue to clarify whether the 2mm longer focal length and 2 / 3 stops when the exposure is really the very significant price difference justified. For me no, and if so, I came to this lens with which I am highly satisfied.
