[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] The best (ultra-) wide-angle lens

[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] The best (ultra-) wide-angle lens

From ruessler

With the 10-20mm Sigma has an excellent lens in the program. It shows the other competitors in many respects, what is a rake. Of course, it also has little weaknesses, but that one sees across, if you realize what this lens has strengths.

The image quality is excellent, the sharpness is very persuasive. Only Aperture can open it blurs the edges to come, but this is for most lenses so. Everything is grayed out in the green area.

The vignetting makes Although noticeable, but is easily correctable with postprocessing. Such a lens requires postprocessing on the computer anyway, also in order to correct the distortion that inevitably occurs.

The autofocus is fast and quiet, thanks to HSM drive.

The workmanship is very good. Recently, Sigma finally establishes a proper lens cover for where you removed the front hineingreift – finally, the old lid, the one on the side abpulen had, was an affront. Also contains a lens hood and a bag of useful.

I can fully recommend this lens, because it gives you possibilities you with longer focal lengths does not have! With the beginning of 18mm focal length (29mm equivalent) you can eventually become unable to go back ;-) .

A few words about the comparison with Canon’s own 10-22mm. This is more expensive, has no lens hood at (and that you must buy is enormous) and is darker from. Especially the latter fact is similar to light the alleged weakness of the Sigma lens again.
I’ve tested both lenses and find the Sigma even much sharper!
So the choice should really be clear: Sigma 10-20mm. Of course nothing for the 5D – because there Abdunklungen that you no longer can be described as vignetting … but that’s a lens for digital times now clear.

[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] Geniale effects – in everyday

[Sigma 10-20 EX DC HSM] Geniale effects – in everyday life unfit.

From “gehlen17″

Pro: effective distortion, wide for the largest DSLR, little distortion, good price, Polfiltereffekt
Counterpoint: average processing, heavy use, hardly suitable for everyday, light blurs the edge

The Sigma 10-20mm is a super wide-angle lens attached to a Nikon camera the effective focal length of 15-30mm reach. In the amateur field, there is no time to DSLR lens with a wider viewing angle. This not only fits on the photo: Objects at the edges are extremely distorted, exaggerated distances. Due to the angles can assign things that are not next to each other (hint: hold camera top). In addition, the thick glass like a polarizer. The sky is bluer, strong colors, reflections remain preserved.
Such effects have their price: Lightweight Randunsch?rfen are measurable, but hardly visible. Moreover, people rarely distorted flattering off (except for longer legs girlfriend).

In everyday life, the lens is used less often disappears in the foreground in a huge background. In tight spaces the lens on the other hand, is indispensable: Close shops, churches and entire cockpit can be on a picture to hold.

The processing is average, because plastic has been used exclusively. The HSM Autofocus is fast and quiet.

Conclusion: Who impressive images make and take time to experiment, get a good lens at a fair price.

[Canon EF-S 17-40mm f/4L USM] Top product

From ruessler

I can associate myself with the other positive reviews only connect. I was looking for a good wide angle lens for my EOS 30D. The 17-40mm cover to 1.6 x Crop my favorite focal lengths from. I had previously with various super-zoom herumgetestet – rather unsatisfactory. Until then I used the 18-55mm in the new version of stability – for his money in order, but I wanted to like more. And that’s exactly where I was at 17-40mm L find.

The processing of the lens is top. The autofocus is fast and precise. And because it’s an L, creates a Canon lens hood and a carrying bag. For other lenses from Canon, this one looks in vain.

As for me, but most convincing: The image quality, and not at all times because of the sharpness, which is obviously very good, but (dimmed) par with the 18-55mm IS (is too much new!).

No, rather, the colors with the 17-40mm, the best that I have ever seen. When 18-55mm I’m always missing something brilliance and contrast – the 17-40mm plays in a totally different league. So, as I understand it from an expensive L lens even expect. The colors are vivid and brilliant. Much finishing is not necessary, usually not at all.
I can only recommend this lens.

Incidentally, it is often asked whether the 17-40mm or 17-55mm IS should choose if you want a zoom in this focal length studied.

During the 17-55mm undoubtedly also a great lens, and on paper offers more features (stability, more luminous, longer focal length), it may in some aspects, the 17-40mm is not water rich. The color of the 17-40mm I think in any case much nicer.

Other advantages of the 17-40mm:
- Because it is a Full-lens, there is less vignetting and Randunsch?rfen to Crop
- Moreover it can be in a future upgrade to a Full or 1.3 x crop camera continue (and if necessary also in film cameras) – the 17-55mm is an EF-S lens, currently up to the 40D-usable
- The processing is better and there is a lens hood at
- It is against rain and dust
- And if we are honest, would have the red ring but each Canon owners happy ;-)

Addendum after about a half year usage: still thrilled me the lens. UV filter I do not and are not necessary – the front lens is scratch and without compensation, even if it was ever dreckig ;-) . Meanwhile, I have several 1000 images with the lens made. Even in bad weather, it provides good color and no Tristes Gray as some cheaper lens.

Conclusion: Pricey, but it’s worth it!
